Vals Quartzite and Vals Quartz Marble—Alpine resources, sourced locally.

Our two types of hard stone— Vals quartzite and Vals quartz marble —are suitable for a wide range of indoor and outdoor applications thanks to their outstanding properties (flexural strength, compressive strength, and frost resistance). Thanks to our large on-site production facility, we create a wide range of products for floors, facades, cladding, stone parquet, kitchen countertops, solid applications, and roofs. Vals stone can be finished in numerous ways: from polished and finely honed to medium- and coarse-honed, as well as sandblasted, broken, or split textures. This ensures there is the right stone for every project.

For decades, Truffer has been working with Vals natural stone—from quarrying and processing to its use in sophisticated construction projects both in Switzerland and abroad. The following material descriptions are based on this many years of practical experience. Learn more about Truffer and how we work

Vals Quartzite

Also known as: Valser Gneiss, Valser Stone, Valser Natural Stone. Petrography: Valser Gneiss

  • Grey Valser Quarzit with silvery shimmering mica, polished finish
  • Grey-green augen quarzit from Vals with large quartz inclusions, rough-ground C120
  • Grey Valser Quarzit with quartz inclusions and mica, rough-ground C120 finish
  • Close-up of Valser Quarzit with a sandblasted, slip-resistant surface
Characteristics & Appearance

Vals Quartzite is a fine-grained, grey-green natural stone with a clearly defined bedding structure and occasional distinct feldspar inclusions. The stone primarily consists of fine-grained quartz and light mica. Its linear pattern, subtle grey tones and delicate mica inclusions give it an unobtrusive elegance.

Vals Quartzite is extracted at the “Jossagada” quarry in Vals and further processed in the adjacent factory.

Vals Quartz Marble

Also known as: Schmitteli, Valser Marble, Valser Natural Stone. Petrography: Quartz Marble

  • Bluish Valser Quarz Marmor with white quartz inclusions, satin finish
  • Valser Quarz Marmor quarry near Vals, blue rock band extracted by wire sawing
  • Bluish Valser Quarz Marmor with a linear structure and white quartz inclusions
Characteristics & Appearance

Vals Quartz Marble is a quartz-rich, bluish hard marble with multifaceted inclusions. Curved patterns, quartz-rich inclusions and its vibrant blue color give the material a unique alpine character.

Vals Quartz Marble is extracted at the “Schmitteli” quarry in Vals and further processed in our factory.

Personality & Appearance

Valser pearls are characterized by their extraordinary grain patterns, color gradients, and textures. Each slab is one-of-a-kind and displays geological features that occur only sporadically in Valser stone. Its natural diversity gives the material a special expressiveness and makes it the ideal choice for architectural and design projects with strong character.
