Vals Quartzite as a symbol of alpine elegance
Vals Quartzite reveals its remarkable versatility throughout the various rooms of the 7132 Hotel in Vals. Japanese architect Kengo Kuma deliberately chose Vals Quartzite as a defining material. In the rooms of the House of Architects, shower trays were crafted from Vals Quartzite, while the material takes on an even more prominent role in the penthouse suites. There, the flooring, kitchen fronts, bathrooms and washbasins are all executed in Vals Quartzite. Our stone also features in the rooms designed by Thom Mayne, where it appears in a variety of finishes and stone selections on both walls and floors. More about the project

A closer look at the Vals Quartzite used throughout the hotel reveals its exceptional diversity and expressive character.
In the rooms and suites designed by Kengo Kuma, the classic grey Vals Quartzite is used throughout. Its defining characteristic is a distinctive linear texture created by the stone’s natural layering. The predominant finishes are satin and coarse ground (C120).
Vals Quartzite also plays a central role in the rooms designed by Thom Mayne. Three distinct stone selections have been incorporated. A black marbled Vals Quartzite with a fine ground finish defines the walls and floors. In other rooms, split layered masonry on the walls creates a striking contrast with the classic grey Vals Quartzite used for the flooring. A third variation features a whitish green, quartz rich selection of Vals Quartzite, whose distinctive texture lends both the walls and floors a unique atmosphere and character.
Sustainability & regional values
The stone used throughout the 7132 Hotel was quarried just one kilometre from the site and processed locally into the finished products. The short transport distances and entirely local value chain underline the sustainability of this exceptional natural stone.
