Vals Quartzite for Yoshio Taniguchi
It is a particular honour for us that the renowned Japanese architect Yoshio Taniguchi also chose Vals Quartzite for a private residence in Tokyo. Known for his precise, minimalist architectural language and his thoughtful approach to materials and space, Taniguchi uses the natural stone here in a restrained yet highly effective way. Material & contribution by Truffer
Large-format Vals Quartzite floor slabs in fixed lengths were used outdoors. The stone is also prominently featured on the façade in the form of façade panels.
For this application, a particularly narrow selection of stone was made: linear material with fine quartz-bearing inclusions was selected. This creates a calm, uniform and distinctly linear appearance that integrates harmoniously into the minimalist architecture.
The same material language continues throughout the interior of the house. In the bathrooms, comparable formats were used for both the floors and walls.
Characteristics & solutions
The deliberately narrow selection of Vals Quartzite demonstrates how strongly the appearance of natural stone can be influenced by the choice of raw material. The linear structure and fine quartz inclusions give the generous surfaces an exceptionally calm and refined appearance.
